Periods of rain and snow
Intermittent rain and snow showers changing to all rain by early afternoon. Cloudy with temperatures steady near the low 40s. Winds NE at 15 to 20 mph. Chance of precip 75%. Snowfall of less than half an inch....

Well, at least we can sled down the hill on the 800...
LOVE LOVE LOVE this video. This is why I always wear Vibram Fivefingers shoes to Crossfit, and run in them as often as possible. I read Born to Run, an awesome book that elaborates on these theories and more, and was convinced that barefoot/forefoot running is the evolutionarilly correct and most safe way to run. It also ties back in to the POSE method, which Crossfit HQ supports. It's amazing how much faster you get once you've mastered it, too.

When I ran Eva the other night I wore my Sambas, which have no cushion at all so I stayed on my toes for the initial impact, followed by my heels. I'm sure my form was quite flawed but I felt no soreness in my knees after. I'd definitely like to learn more about these techniques.
I wear Vibrams as well. And love them. Hurts like hell getting used to them- but the pain is well worth it. I haven't worn them as much lately because the YMCA actually banned me from wearing them- saying they were a safety hazard. Another reason why I love CF. Running on gravel is the only challenge with V5s but the new versions that just came out are designed in a way that allows you to run on gravel/pebbles without pain. Unfortunately, I don't have them.

I think Rx tonight should be barefoot.
in the snow? you're insane!!! someone might have to drag me to the gym tonight. i'm not one to complain, but i HATE running in the cold much less the snow!
waaah waaah kara. : )
I know vibram people love them. There are other options out there - inov8, newton. Lots of options, it is just bio mechanics that it is smarter to run mid foot rather than heal striking. Does that mean you should pose or use chi or something? No, but landing more mid foot is going to help either way.
Agreed Lance. I have Newtons as well. I also run in the old Nike Vintage Waffle racer. It's all the same affect- forces me not to heel strike. Can't say I prefer any of those options better than the other. Just like the fact that it helps force me to better form.

I ran the 5k a week or so ago in my regular running shoes (I was thinking they would keep my toes warmer!) and my knee hurt afterwards :|
wow.. didn't know we had so many winers when it came to running.
Brad :)
I must say that running with snow blowing in my face tonight really reminded me...of running with snow blowing in my face.
i think lizzy's idea of running with ski goggles was brilliant. i shouldve listened!
