Sweet Potato Browns

I had posted a crispy chicken recipe to my blog: modpaleo.com a few days ago and I got a couple of requests to post the sweet potato hashbrowns recipe that were a pictured side item. I haven’t posted a recipe here in a while, so I thought this would be a great little side item to complement a Sunday morning brunch or even a Turkey Day meal! After the recipe… scroll down for a great read!

I use one of those double burner grill pan’s to sauté the hashbrowns. It’s great because you can emulate a griddle surface and get a good crisp on your taters. IF, you don’t have one of those – be sure to cook in small batches in a frying pan.

Sweet Potato Hashbrowns
1-2 sweet potatoes shredded in a food processor
Preheat the pan over medium/high heat
¼ cup of grapeseed oil
I add the following spices to taste:
Sea salt
Fresh ground pepper
Garlic powder
Chipotle pepper powder

Add the potatoes to the heated griddle pan. Then add the seasonings to the top. I usually go once over with the chipotle powder, twice over with the garlic and then 4 turns with the salt and about 3 with the pepper. Then mix everything up really good with tongs or a spatula. Spread the taters into a single layer as much as possible. Let sizzle for a few minutes and then turn – keep an eye not to burn them. I have done this many a time.

Here’s the good read I promised. It’s a guest post from Free the Animal. It’s a great post on Paleo, especially for folks that have been toying around with this whole way of eating. Although, it’s called the 5 Failings of Paleo. It’s a helpful article in pointing out the important factors of eating real food and listening to your body, while not getting all hung up on the small stuff! Thanks to Lance for sending this my way!

My takeaways:

1) Keep it simple. Eat real food. Eat until your full. Enjoy yourself!
2) Everyone is different – listen to your body, not some random dude on the internet (love that quote). Tweaking a Paleo diet to how your body reacts to certain foods is the best way to go.
3) Read the comments and click the links – great information within this post and I always enjoy reading others take/experience with eating a Paleo diet

I also really like turnip hashbrowns, if you’re looking to switch it up a bit! :)
