You can blame Karolyn and Jon Currence for that play on words… yes, it’s lame, but I had to come up with something.
I have been meaning to listen to this dude’s podcasts for a while. I’ve heard a lot about Chris Kresser from some of my paleomammas-to-be out there. But, I am staying away from y’alls water so I hadn’t really made it a priority, even though Karolyn kept trying to share water with me this past weekend. Then Robb Wolf recently posted a podcast with Chris Kresser - so I gave it a listen. They talked about fish oils & dairy – pretty interesting take on both subjects; and they were funny to boot.
But, what got my attention on Kresser’s blog this afternoon was his post on NOT going nuts over nuts. I am as guilty as they come for grabbing a handful of nuts everytime I pass by the container of almonds, and, my stomach ALWAYS gets upset after eating almonds. I read a few things here and there about not eating too many nuts – Whole9 says, “don’t crack out on nuts or nut butters”. I hadn’t found a whole lot of info out there and ASSumed there were just better fat choices to be made in the way of grassfed animal fat proteins, avocados and unsulfered olives. Makes enough sense, right? Well, turns out there are all kinds of good sciency reasons of why You Shouldn’t Go Nuts on Nuts - if you’re on the Paleo train, may want to rethink all those nuts, nut butters and nut flours.

Jon carries a nice nut bag everywhere he goes.
Yes Karolyn, that’s what got you in this whole predicament in the first place.
I couldn’t agree more with this post! Macadamia nuts are a great choice because they are highest in omega 3 and the phytate levels are low, 1.5 g per 100g serving. And they’re the most expensive, which means your wallet will crack out before you do!
Nut bag? Karolyn, its fine to be proud but goodness gracious!
Whitney, right!
Nance, dont judge us
Seriously, nuts are a good source if energy but to the article’s point, all nuts are not created equal. Still, all kinds of food (processed foods nots included) in moderation is fine, hence a nut bag to carry in your purse in case of emergencies is key as opposed to eating the nuts for dinner.
Even though I do paleo, I try to zone my fats. I always thought that zone had a good rule of thumb for fats and balancing their intake. Yes Jon, I too have a nut bag and no, I’m not ashamed!
It would be so much more fun, and many less words, if we called Jon’s bag of nuts his Nut Sack.
Bwahahaha…..
