Meet: Robert Cope

I decided to start crossfit because I was tired of doing the same workout day in and day out. I was frustrated getting up every morning and going to the gym. I wanted something new, something different. Crossfit gave me the outlet I was craving. To engage in a work out that not only taxed my body but also taxed me mentally and motivated me to become a better man.

I was apprehensive to become a full time crossfitter at first, but it changed when a morning class was started. I was hooked and said goodbye to my previous life of going to the “regular” gym to workout.  The enthusiasm of Kurt, the morning trainer, was infectious. He was more proud and excited about small accomplishments that were achieved even though I thought it was unimportant.  The morning class developed a quick camaraderie among everyone who decided to work out before the sun broke through the morning air. This camaraderie shows each morning as each member pushes one another to put their best effort forward in each workout.

I never joined crossfit as a program to lose weight. As time progressed, however, I began to look at other aspects of my life to improve upon. The training staff pushed me to change my diet. After reading information about the Paleo diet and the Zone diet I jumped right in. The changes were immediate. I was sleeping better and my workout times began to improve. I continue to get stronger while my body is becoming leaner. Since January, I have gone from a size 40 to a size 34 in jeans (standard measurement for weight lose). And I have gone from 275 lbs. to 220 lbs.

Ultimate CrossFit has changed my life. I have the confidence to pursue other aspirations that were not open to me prior to crossfit. The community built at Ultimate Crossfit is amazing. Each member is approachable and brings a positive energy to the gym everyday no matter if there is a tough workout waiting for them.

Robert – Awesome work. I saw you after a few months and I didn’t recognize you. You always worked hard, but that focus on diet and continuing to show up has made a huge difference. You are a great athlete but even better person. Before and After pictures are on their way.
