Meet: Harold Smith

My 45th birthday has prompted me to take a look back at my state of fitness over the years. As a result of this retrospection I can safely say that I am in better shape today than I have been in probably 20 years. Why? Boot Camp. Several attributes of Boot Camp make it the perfect program for me. These are:

Variety – Unlike running or many other exercise regimens, Boot Camp is not boring. It is fun and forces me to work my entire body.

Camaraderie – It’s great to work out with a group of nice people and I feel like I’ve somehow let the group down if I miss Boot Camp or don’t give it my all. Also, while I do not participate in the diet aspect of Boot Camp, the fact that diet is a topic of conversation among the rest of the group makes me think more about what I eat such that I end up making better decisions about food.

Regularity – Having a scheduled exercise time pretty much every day helps me fit exercise into a life full of work and family commitments. The fact that Boot Camp happens at 5:45 has also caused me to go to bed earlier and get more sleep. The early morning Boot Camp also makes me think a lot harder about whether to have that 2nd beer or glass of wine with dinner which means I am drinking less.

Coaching – As an elementary school, high school and college athlete I have been conditioned to do what my coach says even if it hurts. Without that coaching I get lazy and slack off. That fact that the coach “walks the
talk” makes it that much easier to do as he says.

Thank you for making Boot Camp happen and for your efforts to keep it fun.

    Hey Harold. Great story man. It is awesome the changes you have made. Keep it up and Carter will keep Coaching you and not let any of that lazyness creep in.

    Harold-
    I witnessed you in such fine form this morning- you bring the intensity and the Lewis duo will keep leading you down the fun path to excellent health and fitness.
